Rocío Marano’s new performance "AirtaM", a continuation of her previous work "Matria", dives into bodily metamorphosis – powered by the stomping rhythms of Malambo, a traditional Argentine dance reserved exclusively for men, and the spirit of the Gauchopunk genre, a term coined by writer Michel Nieva that fuses science fiction, Argentine literature, and cyberpunk.
In this funky mashup of past and future, the organic and the artificial, the body mutates and challenges notions of identity, gender, beauty, and representation. Through rhythmic and visual dissociation, "AirtaM" invites the audience to reconsider how we see and experience the world – beyond our habitual obsession with the visual. The performance is part of a practice-based research project funded by the 2024/2025 Tanzpraxis Fellowship.

Biographien
Die argentinische Tänzerin und Choreografin Rocío Marano arbeitet seit 2014 in Berlin. Neben ihrer Tanzausbildung studierte sie an der Escola Superior d‘Art i Disseny de les Illes Balears in Spanien und absolvierte anschließend ein Masterstudium in Choreografie am Hochschulübergreifenden Zentrum Tanz HZT in Berlin. Sie studierte darüber hinaus Ökofeminismus an der Universität Buenos Aires und wurde 2020 mit einem DAAD-Stipendium gefördert. Rocio Marano lässt sich insbesondere durch kollektive und alltägliche Prozesse inspirieren, deren Kontexte weit über den zeitgenössischen Tanz hinausgehen. Daher ist ihre Forschung eklektisch ausgerichtet und schließt Praktiken wie Krump, Malambo, interspezifische Wechsel-beziehungen – oder auch Gähnen – ein. Rocío Marano war 2022 Body Time Space Residentin im Radialsystem.
