An immersive concert experience in search of meaning and the chance for spiritual growth in a world of horror. Amidst a space created by sound and light technologies, visitors will immerse themselves in a compelling blend of text, music, singing, and movement.
BECOME CHOIR boldly explores the boundaries and potentials of art—an invitation to reflect on and discuss our history and identity. Uniquely its own, BECOME CHOIR aims to confront the growing anti-Semitism in Germany through artistic intervention.
Centered around ritualistic mourning songs, including the Kaddish, Psalms, and excerpts from requiems, this immersive concert spotlights Paul Celan’s Death Fugue. Johannes Schropp’s choreographic interpretation adds a physical dimension to the performance. Blending traditional and contemporary forms, the event offers a profound glimpse into the intricacies of the human experience. The sonic spectrum spans from early and new music to recitations of Paul Celan’s poems.

AuditivVokal Dresden wurde 2007 durch den Dirigenten Olaf Katzer gegründet und avancierte in kurzer Zeit zu einem der profiliertesten Vokalensembles der Gegenwartsmusik. Im Mittelpunkt der interdisziplinär angelegten künstlerischen Arbeit steht die conditio humana, die Frage nach der Bedeutung von Menschlichkeit, Empathie, Verantwortung und Würde im Zeichen neuer technologischer, gesellschaftlicher und ökologischer Entwicklungen.
Olaf Katzer studierte Musik und Psychologie in München, Weimar und Dresden. Bereits während des Studiums gründete er das Ensemble AuditivVokal Dresden, das er seitdem künstlerisch leitet. Über 100 Ur- und Erstaufführungen, internationale Gastspiele bei zahlreichen Festivals und Rundfunkaufnahmen dokumentieren sein Engagement für die „zeitgenüssliche“ Vokalmusik. Im transdisziplinären Austausch entwickelt er eine zeitgemäße Ensemblekunst für das 21. Jahrhundert.
Johannes Schropp studierte Choreografie und Performance in Gießen (Bojana Kunst, Xavier Le Roy, Martina Ruhsam u.a.) sowie Komposition in Stuttgart (Martin Schüttler, Jennifer Walshe u.a.). Seine meist klangbezogene Arbeit ist installativ, videographisch und physisch. Er kreiert Musik für Tanz und Performance, sowie Bühnen-, Video- und immersive, performative Konzepte für Musiktheater und Konzerte. Aufführungen, Residenzen und Kooperationen u.a. im Tanzhaus NRW, Hellerau Dresden, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Radialsystem, Tanzfaktur Köln, Act Festival Bilbao (ES), Simultan Festival Timsoara (RO), Sofia Art Week 4 (BG), TONALi Hamburg.
