Discordian plunderphonics breaching the sonic wash as shards of deconsecrated hi-hats skitter just out of sight – a NAH listening experience is a phantasmagorical audio journey of avant-garde beatsmithery. For CTM 2024, you will get sucked up the wormhole by the debut of his new album and live AV show "Totally Recalled", a guaranteed head-tripping adventure full of visual reflections on the confusion, disconnection, narcissism, anxiety and fear that pervades the Americanized modern experience.
Award-winning composer, sound artist, and live performer SØS Gunver Ryberg meets the visual artist and CGI director Sybil Montet for "Weaving Fields", an audiovisual journey where worldbuilding and scenic experience collide, fusing mutant rhythmics and advanced digital cinematography. Equally at ease commanding dance floors with hard-hitting techno as she is producing immersive and harrowing soundtracks for films, theatre, and the BAFTA award-winning video game "INSIDE", SØS Gunver Ryberg’s thunderous musical voice is reflected into Sybil's high-speed, hypnotic CGI mirage signature style, as seen on her album covers for Travis Scott or her moving image works exhibited from Japan to the USA. In this singular collaboration, the two artists summon waves of ecological mystique in an ever-evolving core of divergent realities, from postdigital landscapes to luscious emotional drifts. A vivid dream into the interconnectedness of life. "Weaving Fields" will see its German premiere at CTM Festival.

Biographien
NAH is a percussionist, sound manipulator and visual artist from Philadelphia, but currently operating out of Belgium. He has been recording, touring and developing his own dynamic synthesis of mutated samples, textured noise and genre smashing rhythms since late 2011. Recent years have found him not only producing his own work but also collaborating with artists like Wiki, Mike, Moor Mother, Slauson Malone, Iggor Cavalera, Evicshen, Cities Aviv, Obongjayar and many more.
The award-winning sound artist and composer SØS Gunver Ryberg is exploring nothing less than the essence of existence. Breaker of ground and genre, SØS Gunver Ryberg imbues a deeply powerful and transformative intensity in her work. Riding your mindway to kickstart nascent neurons, the spherical textures and insistent rhythmics of each composition send you down new states of mental being.
Sybil Montet reflects on the dynamics between future studies, mysticism, and emergence. The world of this French artist lies within the uncanny valley, filled with beings and landscapes in a state of morphic disruption. This perpetual unrest in her work stems from her attraction for both composition and movement and her love of the qualities inherent within CGI, informed by bio-mimesis and speculative architecture.
Programme
From 26 January – 4 February 2024, CTM Festival will celebrate a silver 25 year anniversary at Radialsystem, Berghain, silent green, and other Berlin venues.
CTM 2024 is titled "Sustain" – a weird and fascinating word that touches opposite polarities of the contemporary experience as it speaks of the empathy and determination through which we survive, as well as of our anxieties, losses, and pains. In the word "sustain" we sense both what we are going through while hearing what needs to be done. It is as much a description as it is an imperative as it is a vocation towards more interdependent ways of life. With its 2024 edition CTM Festival asks what if "sustain" were a sound? What would it be like? Music is not only a refuge, but also a constant reminder of our desire to get closer to the brighter end of the spectrum. Looking at musical life and music ecosystems under the perspective of "sustain", what ideals, ethics, and practices can we identify and discuss to make music a means to work towards something more sane, just, and sustainable?
