Sasha Waltz & Guests’ children’s dance company performs with “In C – nächste Generation” (“In C – next generation”), its own variation of a repertoire piece by Sasha Waltz. Since the beginning of 2022, these young dancers have been working together with experienced "In C" performers on the 53 choreographic figures, and have developed their own interpretation of the structured but playful improvisation.
On 17 September, a premiere takes place to celebrate the anniversary: For the first time, the Children's Dance Company of Sasha Waltz & Guests will perform their version of “In C” with the title “In C - next generation” together with professional dancers from Sasha Waltz & Guests at Radialsystem.
„The score of „In C“ consists of fifty-three musical phrases and reads like stage directions for musicians. The thought of translating these detailed instructions into dance through a choreographic exploration of the music appealed to me. The result is an experimental system of fifty-three movement phrases for a structured improvisation with clear rules and laws. The length of the piece remains variable, as does the number of musicians and dancers.“

Biographien
The Children’s Dance Company started out as an initiative by Sasha Waltz, Hanna Hegenscheidt and Livia Patrizi. They took over a group started in 2005-6 by a project called “TanzZeit – Zeit für Tanz in Schulen” (DanceTime – time for dance in schools). At the time, the children had the opportunity to train their movements and develop their talent once a week. By now, the Sasha Waltz & Guests company has four dance groups for young talents (ages 6-8, 9-11, 11-14, 14+), focused on engaging them in dance through play. Led by dancers associated with the company, the children and adolescents explore themselves and each other through movement. They regularly develop small pieces with their groups and present their work at Radialsystem.
30 Years Sasha Waltz & Guests
In 2023, Sasha Waltz & Guests celebrates its 30th anniversary. On this occasion, the company presents a programme of Sasha Waltz’s most recent works, including two pieces at Radialsystem: „Beethoven 7“, which premiered at Radialsystem in March 2023, returns to the place of its creation at the end of August with four performance dates. In mid-September, the anniversary is celebrated with a double performance of „In C“, a colourful exploration of the world of minimal music. The project was created during the pandemic and premiered in spring 2021 in a livestream from Radialsystem. The children’s dance company of Sasha Waltz & Guests will also present their version of Sasha Waltz’s choreography titled „In C – nächste Generation“, which they developed together with dancers from Sasha Waltz & Guests. Furthermore, the company will be back at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele for the first time since 2019 – with Sasha Waltz’s work for dance, light and orchestra „SYM-PHONIE MMXX“, for which the choreographer commissioned Georg Friedrich Haas with a composition and which premiered at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in Berlin in March 2022.
