In “Kreatur”, (“Creature”), Sasha Waltz and 14 dancers explore phenomena of existence in relief against the current background of a torn society marked by power and powerlessness, dominance and weakness, freedom and control, community and isolation. The choreography casts dance as growing out of tensions between creatures who occupy the same habitat. Shared turmoil, ecstasy and the search for refuge allow the dancers to merge into a single creature, only to dissolve again into their individual fates, entering new conflicts and connections.
“Kreatur” is an interplay of artistic voices united by an intensely interdisciplinary stance: Iris van Herpen’s sculptural costumes are at once organic and technoid. Urs Schönebaum shapes spaces with his lighting concepts for theater and opera productions, exhibitions, performances and installations all over the world. The musicians of the Soundwalk Collective (Berlin/New York) incorporate methods of anthropology, ethnography and psychogeography into their genre-spanning sound compositions.

Biographien
Sasha Waltz is a choreographer, dancer and director. She studied dance and choreography in Amsterdam and New York. Together with Jochen Sandig she founded the company Sasha Waltz & Guests in 1993 and is cofounder of the Sophiensæle (1996) and the Radialsystem (2006). From 2000-2004 she was a member of the artistic direction of the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz and in the season 2019/20 she was director of the Berlin State Ballet together with Johannes Öhman. In her current choreographic work Waltz focuses on the condensation of collaborative processes, such as the synchronous development of choreography and music (e.g. „Kreatur“, 2017). In 2021 Sasha Waltz was awarded the French cultural order „Commandeur de l'ordre des Arts et des Lettres“.
