Rhythm as a social and political instrument underpins the live premiere of the piece “safe&sound” at Radialsystem. Berlin-based choreographer Lee Méir uses loops, polyrhythms, and linear and cyclical tenses to address questions of belonging, freedom, and collective decision-making. Inside Radialsystem, six performers move to a rhythm that repeatedly starts and stops. In the percussive play of dance, gestures, voice and objects, they resist and follow the pull of harmony, the desire for synchronicity and the temptation to “surrender to the groove”.
With “safe&sound” Méir continues her artistic research on the creation and transformation of meaning. While she experimented with language in her earlier works, “safe&sound” focuses on the immediate impact of rhythms.
