Transtraditionelles Musiklabor – Encounter III: Komprovisation
Trickster Orchestra

Workshop concert with musical and discursive elements
In the third “Encounter” of its transtraditional music laboratory, the Trickster Orchestra takes up the theme of “comprovisation” – the multifarious creative practices situated between composition and improvisation that play a central role in a transtraditional music praxis. In order to achieve the ideal of an equitable plurality of approaches, styles and timbres, there is need for methodologies that allow these voices to be heard as freely as possible. Collective improvisation can be one course of action to fulfil this. At the same time, the resultant music requires certain compositional settings as a regulatory mechanism.
In April 2025, the Trickster Orchestra discusses and tests possible forms of comprovisation as well as their ethical and aesthetic implications, together with invited guests.
The transtraditional music laboratory of the Trickster Orchestra is a public, experimental and interactive project. Audiences are invited to participate in an informal setting, ask questions, make comments – or just listen. At the centre of five thematic “Encounters”, which culminate in a major festival in spring 2026, are questions around a contemporary, transtraditional music practice. Together with different guest artists, the Trickster Orchestra embarks on an artistic journey of discovery with an uncertain outcome, as they present current (musical) snapshots, miniatures and sketches in workshop concerts.
